Brattleboro History- Guest Speaker- Mr. Wheelock

Mr. Wheelock joined our class to talk about how entertainment has changed over time.  Some questions students asked:
What games did boys and girls play?
What did adults do for entertainment?
Were there clubs back then?
How were toys different and the same?
What did you do for fun in school.

We compared and contrasted life from the past to the present.

Many thanks to Mr. Wheelock!

What kids are saying about Necap!

" I think it is nice to give snacks during the Necap test, because when I'm hungry I get tired and my amygdala goes to sleep."

"I thought it would be hard at first but once you get started it's easy."

" I like Necap because you can learn new things."

" When it was a hard problem to solve I became a Necap
detective."

Math Data Collecting!

In our Math unit about data, called Survey and Line Plots students have been collecting, and organizing data into categories.   We are then interpreting the data and finding many interesting things about our classmates.  Some questions are:  What is your favorite candy bar or fruit?   Below is some math vocabulary we have been using to describe our data findings:
More than half

Welcome Back! Happy New School Year!!!

Dear families,

I hope you had a great summer! Despite the rain and humid heat, summer did arrive. While you were enduring the humid heat here on the east coast I was in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico basking in dry 104 degrees heat, with family.

My colleagues and I have spent some of the summer planning our implementation of Reading Street which will incorporate Common Core standards into reading and writing. We will be delving into engaging non-ficition reading material of complex text that will be sure to extend our learning and discovery in many areas across the curriculum.

I look forward to seeing our new class and hearing all about summer adventures. My hope is to create a safe and happy learning environment that supports and honors student learning. I look forward to working with you in order to best serve the needs of your child.

Thank you,

Deb Pierotti

Writing Personal Narratives using Story Grammar Markers

Story Grammar Markers are 8" icon manipulatives designed to provide students with hands-on approach to narrative language development. The Story Grammar Marker engages students in the process of recounting personal narratives.  As students tell stories, the Story Grammar Marker guides them in key elements of text structure.

Note:  Each student finger wove their own Story Grammar Marker!
